The world's first Vegan Fashion Week

Fashion truly is turning its eye to sustainability and animal exploitation; last year we saw multiple fashion houses announcing their abandonment on the use of fur and exotic animal skin, with Helsinki Fashion Week going one step further by banning all leather from their SS20 collections. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that LA - the mecca of healthy living trends and a city which has already banned the sale and production of fur, is launching the world’s first Vegan Fashion Week (VFW).

VFW’s founder and animal rights activist Emmanuelle Rienda said “I want to ignite conversations and debates within the industry by educating, elevating, and drawing connections between our most important values: our respect for human life, animal rights, and the environment”.

The anticipated event is to launch on 1st February and will run for 4 days with aim to end all forms of animal exploitation in the fashion industry. Guests will be welcomed on the opening night at the Museum of Natural History of Los Angeles by Noble Peace Prize laureate Robert Lempert. The finest in LA fashion can expect to see catwalk shows, presentations and an exhibition on the evolution of vegan fashion. On hand will of course be the Vegan Fashion Lounge where attendees can discover an array of vegan food prepared by chefs from around the world.

Emmanuelle Rienda hopes that VFW will inspire other fashion-forward cities, ultimately taking the event global. Which city do you think could be next?
