SS18: The Jewellery Trends

As summer is fast approaching, we look back at the jewellery trends from the SS18 fashion weeks. From statement jewellery to the resurgence of charms, here are our best trends to look out for in the coming months.

Go Long
It’s a unanimous decision this week in the office; lengthy and long jewellery is here to stay this summer. From the jaw dropping, shoulder skimming mirror bell earrings at Isabel Marant, to the spectacular swinging necklaces at Dior, we love how elevating this addition can be for a low-key day-time look. Away from the catwalk, try Missoma's multifarious medallions for a demi-fine alternative; perfectly epitomising a summer breeze.

Pearls of Wisdom
We love the contemporary transformation of the classic pearl. Valentino’s pearl studded iterations with inspirations from space were out of this world and Alessandro Michelle gave pearl necklaces a big twist for Gucci. Sonia Rykiel used them to enforce a nautical theme and Alexander McQueen incorporated them into punky-goth stacks of chokers that were strapped over models’ greasy locks.

Utterly Charming
2018 is the year of the charm as the classic jewellery icon appeared on a number of catwalks. From the fun-loving charm bracelets at Miu Miu to charms hanging from delicate cuffs at Elie Saab, the popular motifs will be a big hit this summer. Trendy decorations included mini tassels, flowers, hearts and fruit, giving each necklace and bracelet an individual personality.

All Clear
There’s a lot of hype this year around transparent accessories which didn’t stop at the accompanying jewellery. From half-moon like constructions at Altuzarra to water drop earrings with matching transparent boots and hats at Chanel, we couldn’t get enough of the glistening alternative. The best thing about the see-through look is that you don’t even have to worry about colour-clashing with your outfit; clean and versatile, just the way we like it.

Go Big Or Go Home
Our final takeaway message we expect to see on the streets this summer is big, bright and bold jewellery. Statement cuffs were a common scene at shows; whether sleek and minimal at Ralph Lauren or dramatic and studded at Coach, the statement cuff adds a bold, glamorous edge to any look. Chloé’s entwining ring on ring on ring ensemble was interesting and attracted many eyes. For earrings, Balenciaga created enormous faux gemstones that grazed the collar bone and Dolce & Gabbana presented a full sweep of pendulous carrots, aubergines, lemons and flowers, giving us a much needed taste of summer.
