How To: Make Fathers Day Memorable

From sporting attractions, to mouth-watering delights and weekend events, here are Freedom’s top days out to make your Father’s Day even more memorable.

The Taste of London has returned to Regents Park. Commencing on the 14th of June, a selection of the best chefs in the world alongside some of the most recognisable restaurants in London gather to show off the hottest dishes from their tantalising menus. With prices starting as low as £17, you and your father can experience live cooking demonstrations, participate in masterclasses and replenish yourselves using the 200 food and drink stalls available.

For the first time visitors will also be able to enjoy a sit-down meal at the table of top chefs Ana Roš, Alex Atala, Ollie Dabbous and more. Keep an eye out for double Michelin-star chef, Tom Kerridge, who will also be doing bits and pieces on the day too. Restaurants involved in Taste of London 2017 include Roka, Bubbledogs, Vanilla Black, Señor Ceviche, Club Gascon and Jamavar. If your Dad enjoys culinary delights, this is definitely the one for you.

For a horticultural day out, try visiting the Open Garden Squares Weekend. Taking place this weekend, 27 London boroughs open their private gardens for the public to enjoy. From historical and traditional to new and exotic, discover some hidden grassy gems in over 200 London gardens. You can hop into guided walks, listen to live music and even take part in some fun family entertainment. Entry fees are free of charge.

Some of the private gardens participating this weekend include the garden of 10 Downing Street; the Royal College of Physicians' Medicinal Garden; Belgrave Square, a private garden surrounded by grand mansions; the garden of Trumpeters' House, built on the site of the former Richmond Palace; Crossrail Place Roof Garden in Canary Wharf; and the gated community garden at Tate Modern. If the chilled vibe is more your Dads style, don’t miss out on this annual opportunity.

Big on cricket? Get tickets this weekend to see the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. Held at The Oval, London, Pakistan will battle it out against favourites India to claim the title of best one-day international side in the world.

If all of this is a bit too much and instead he’d prefer to simply spend some quality time with the family, then get out and enjoy the sun at these gastro pubs in London. With top quality beers and delicious food; what else does a man need?

Alternatively, if your looking for a gifting option, try purchasing one of virgin’s experiences. From skydiving to days at the horse races, Virgin offers it all. If your Dad likes whisky, make sure you make his day more special by purchasing the Whisky Blending Experience for £59. As well as tasting whiskies from all over the world, you will both be talked through the creation of each blend as well as be able to make up your own concoction to take home and share with friends and family (or most likely drink yourselves).
