Hot Sneaker Drops This January

Heeley’s, Crocs and even sandals have seen their day in the footwear industry; however all have seemed to fade away. The sneaker, on the other hand, isn’t going anywhere. Increasing in sales revenue year on year, the trainer segment is continuously growing and dominating the market as a whole. So, what hot drops are hitting the street during 2017 that you MUST keep your eye on?

Nike’s Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr
Renowned for their celebrations of Black History Month, Nike is paying tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. via their Jordan Brand producing a set of ‘Triple Black’ player exclusive kicks for the NBA court. Labelled the ‘MLK Day PE’, the range of sneakers includes blacked out versions of the CP3.X, AJXXXI, M13, Extra.Fly and Super.Fly 5 PO. The PE sneakers will unfortunately not be on sale to general public however for consumers, the Jordan Brand will drop a special ‘RE2PECT’ T-Shirt with the revolutionists widely publicised and well known quote “The Time is Always Ripe to Do Right”, printed on the back. These are expected to be released soon through the official site and select Jordan retail stores.

FA and Vans Collaboration
Teasing their customers, Anthony Van Engelen, co-founder of popular brand Fucking Awesome, took to Instagram to spread word about the brands upcoming collaboration with Vans. The post revealed the leather-clad silhouette in black with imprinted FA branding across the entire shoe. Set to be released on January 21st, the drop will also include a blue and white variation.

Horween x NB
Following the success of their ‘Red Clay’ drop, Horween and New Balance are teaming up again for a couple collaborations on the M997BKR and 990V2 sneakers. Horween leather is known as one the finest tanneries globally; hence the retail price of both shoes is over £200. The M997BKR follows in the footsteps of the M997 JOL, also applying a light grey to the pebbled leather panelling, whilst a deep beige hue handle the rest of the smooth leather finish. The 990V2 takes things in a much bolder direction; a deep burgundy leather with splashes of blood red stitching finished with a contrasting grey leather ‘N’. Both shoes are available now from NB stockists.

Adidas PureBOOST Shoe
The new PureBOOST, officially unveiled by Adidas recently, is equally impressive in style and performance. The new, hot sneaker is complimented by a unique streamline design and running orientated specifications to create one of the most fashionable performance based trainers ever to come out of Herzogenaurach. The new circular nit construction, ever present Primeknit technology and double wrap tongue pays tribute to the popular YEEZY model. The lower half of the shoes has also received effective updates in an 8mm heel lift, progressive sculpting of BOOST technology and wider forefront; giving consumers better support when proactive across all terrains. The improved kicker is in stores now in black/white with black colourway variations expected to drop on January 25th.

Album Inspired Sneakers
The relationship between sneakers and music has been forever symbiotic, however never has such a direct link been created. Graphic designer Patso Dimitrov has customised artwork from some of his most favourable albums and printed them directly onto six signature basketball trainers: Kanye West’s Life of Pablo on the Adidas Harden Vol. 1; David Bowie’s Blackstar on the Nike LeBron 14; Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book on the Nike KD9; A Tribe Called Quest’s Thank You 4 Your Service on the Nike Kobe A.D.; J.Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only on the Nike Kyrie 3; and the Weeknd’s Starboy on the Under Armour Curry 3. All six models are executed with style and perfection. But, which one do you like the most?

Sneakers76 X Saucony Pay Homage to Taras
Greek mythology is again at the center of inspiration of a Sneakers76 collaboration. Legend has it that the son of Poseidon, Taras, was rescued in a shipwreck by a dolphin sent by his father. Surfacing in Taranto, the mythical hero established a Greek colony in his name. Paying tribute to their own hometown, Sneakers76 has joint with Saucony to produce a special edition of the Shadow 5000 called ‘Taras’. Opting for and illuminate red and blue design with a light grey premium suede across the upper, the luxurious construct is assisted with a trident printed leather tongue. Already sold out at Packer Shoes, the limited edition kicker can be found at selected stockists across the country but in very limited quantities.

So, what do you think of the new hot drops coming in January? Will you be purchasing? Also to follow is the highly anticipated Nike collaborations with Supreme and also with Stone Island. Both are expected to blow up in the world of kicks and sneakers!
